November 2006. G8 Crash 4 MSF Charity Fundraiser
Alton Rugby Club was heaving again for the second in a series of major fund raising events entitled G8 Crash 4. This year G8 Crash 4 MSF (international medical aid charity Medecins Sans Frontieres) was sold out to a crowd in serious party mood. Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere with excellent food and drinks, plus singing and dancing along to two live music acts.
Local guitarman and singer Gary Miles delivered a hugely entertaining sing-a-long session of well known rock and pop classics. Indie/punk five-piece band Bullet Proof Pants followed, playing a mix of well known covers together with up to date hits and a selection of their own material. (www.overplay.co.uk/bulletproofpants)
Principal organisers Iain and Caroline Cooper, were thrilled. 'However you measure success, G8 Crash 4 MSF has just been immense, the party atmosphere, some quite incredible generosity - we're still getting cash in so still counting but we're already well in excess of last year's total and anticipate around GBP 6,000. In particular we'd like to thank local accountancy firm Mascolo Styles, Sainsbury's, Espresso's Coffee Bar, Pizza Express, fff brewery, the volunteers at ARFC and the rest we'll publicise on the rugby club website,' commented an exhausted but very satisfied Iain Cooper.
Caroline added: 'MSF is just an incredible organisation. If what we've done just helps to provide one more medical team with the equipment they need to vaccinate, hydrate and care for someone in a disaster zone, then it's all been worthwhile'.
