Since we set up, we’ve seen how the consultancy sector has grown and the recruitment sector has changed from being sometimes client to sometimes candidate driven, the phenomenal growth of social media and SMS being standard form of communication.
Challenges have included the global financial crisis of 2008/2009 in which we kept very busy through diversification – engaging in other sectors less impacted by the recession. Some things however have remained constant.
From day one we committed to doing our best for our clients and candidates by engaging face to face as much as we physically could, enabling us to understand the people behind the job descriptions and CVs. We focus on the quality and integrity of our relationships over and above the chasing of fees.
Consequently, we’ve seen many competitors come and go, and have been able to create and maintain excellent working relationships. The kind of relationships that provide a continual flow of excellent opportunities to do great business and most importantly for us, do that business with great people.
Based in rural Hampshire, we work across the UK and internationally. We have built strong relationships with some of the most well-known and aspirational automotive businesses in the world. We also have a comprehensive database of automotive talent.

I started in the automotive sector in the mid-eighties selling temporary driving and transport staff to the fleet and logistics sector, over the next 15 years I undertook a number of mainly fleet focussed sales and operational management and finally ‘Head of’ roles for car brands, rental and leasing companies. Callidus started as a way to earn a living with a young family, with one primary ‘non-negotiable’ aspect – we would focus on quality not volume, trade ethically, and pay our suppliers on time every time. That is how it was in 2001, and how it is now. And we now do great business with some inspiring start-ups and local SMEs alongside some of the world’s most iconic brands, placing people across 10 time zones. All from a small market town in rural Hampshire, UK. Are we proud ? Very.
I have been with Callidus Consulting since 2001 having had a previous career in the public and charitable sectors. Iain and I have built the business by focusing on quality and integrity. We build long-term relationships with our clients and candidates. In the last few years I have had a particular interest in expanding the international business and have recruited across a number of varied markets. I am proud that a multi-national business based in Singapore chooses to work with us across the globe - although the challenge of organising a telephone interview when my client is in Asia and my candidate in South America is an interesting one! Juggling time zones has become my speciality. I am science graduate from Exeter University and still have a strong interest in all matters scientific.
I joined Callidus Consulting in 2014 and have enjoyed the progression I have made from a part-time admin role to a full-time role placing candidates. My days are spent searching for candidates on job boards, arranging interviews, and communicating with candidates and clients at different stages in the process. Thanks to Callidus I am also completing a recruitment training course which is keeping me up to date with all the latest tools in the recruitment world – an added benefit of the course is when completed I gain the title of “sourcing ninja”! I am really enjoying working for a company who place staff development as a high priority and pride themselves on their ethical outlook. I am a business and environmental management graduate from Oxford Brookes University and have had previous experience in co-ordinator type roles.
I started working at Callidus Consulting in 2012 as Financial Controller. I have really enjoyed expanding my role to becoming more involved in the recruitment and administration side of the business. I enjoy the challenge of identifying candidates with very specific skills and experience within the UK and in international markets. The tools available for search are constantly changing and I am continually learning and adapting my approach. My geography has also dramatically improved! After a break looking after my children Callidus has given me the opportunity to return to my career and broaden my skills. My previous experience in finance has been within the pharmaceutical, sports and motor industries. In fact, I started my career in the fast fit sector as my father ran a successful tyre business, so you could say I’ve come full circle back to automotive.

Meryl Gilbert is a business Consultant specialising in Sales and Account Management related activities, such as restructuring of sales functions, re-engineering contact and segmentation strategies, and training . Additionally Meryl is an EMCC qualified Development & Executive Coach whose areas of specialism are individual and team coaching; leadership coaching ,and transitional and change management coaching for business leaders and key resource. With 30 years experience in a range of industries, spanning Motorsport; Banking; Financial Services; Automotive and Global Payments, she was responsible for many external and internal sales and account management functions, delivering consistent over-performance. Additionally, Meryl has operated on the executive committee of a market leading £3.3bn Global Payments Company.
John has worked in the fleet industry for more than 30 years. Initially with Autolease, where as Sales Director he helped the business grow from 12,000 vehicles to 146,000 to become the FN50 number 1. He took the Commercial Director role at GE Fleet and helped the company return to growth, through significant new business gains and increased customer ‘share of wallet’. In 2007 John joined Manheim as its Group Sales Director, taking his sales leadership experience to the world’s largest vehicle remarketing company. He returned to fleet management in 2011 joining Pendragon Contracts as Sales and Marketing Director. John now provides consultancy to fleets, in particular around, cost reduction, tender management and negotiating favourable terms with suppliers. He also works with leasing and fleet management companies on projects, such as new product development, sales coaching, and customer engagement –all subjects which he is hugely passionate about.
Paul has 20 years’ leadership and management experience working both within the professional services sector and for B2B corporates aiming to improve their solution selling and customer advice. He helps organisations increase revenues through creating high performance sales units and pre-sales consultancy teams. Paul specialises in commercial strategy, insight-led selling approaches (such as ‘Challenger selling’), sales playbook creation, driving performance through reward, and sales coaching. He has recently served Board-level clients at Zenith LeaseDrive, Hitachi Capital, Volkswagen Financial Services, Statoil Fuel & Retail (Europe), Colt Telecom, and Equifax.
Ross is a qualified accountant and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants. He was Finance Director for 12 years with ING Car Lease UK Limited, a member of the ING banking group. Having set out the financial foundations for expansion he saw the business grow seven fold and was instrumental in the acquisition of a company which more than doubled the size of the business. At the end of that period Ross was part of the leadership teams that sold the ING European Car Lease businesses to BMW Group where Ross continued for a further two years assisting in the integration and undertaking the role of Chief Risk Officer. The transaction took the BMW car lease business Alphabet to number three in the UK and number four in Europe. His key areas of achievement have included financially preparing businesses for growth, financial leadership in the acquisition and sale of businesses, finance department turn‑arounds and the establishment of robust internal controls.
Andreas Wolter has enabling international automotive companies to do great business throughout an outstanding career. Since 2010 this has been in an interim and consulting capacity. During this time he has directly managed a mainstream contract hire start-up in Turkey, provided strategic support of a fleet management re-launch project of a leading OEM in continental Europe, served as interim COO of a leading global fleet management company and the lead the strategic repositioning of an large scale importer retail finance operation. Prior to this Andreas was CEO of BMW FS in France and then China and a number of other senior leadership roles across the BMW FS and Alphabet businesses. He is based in Frankfurt, speaks fluent English, German and French with a working knowledge of Czech, Mandarin and Turkish.
Tony has been running large scale vehicle fleets for many years. His approach to everything from ensuring fleet strategy is aligned with corporate objectives, through to supplier management and building great fleet teams has delivered consistent and impressive fleet performance for some mainstream UK businesses. Alongside fleet he has also been responsible for managing the broader ‘Comp and Ben’ requirements of Marsh McLlennan Insurance (2500 car fleet, 6500 FTE) and developing broader procurement strategies for the plant and fleet division of Morrison Utilities Services (2300 car and LCV fleet, 13000 items of plant). Tony now provides expertise to fleet operators enabling them to benefit from his experience and track record. More recently he has been instrumental in helping Callidus develop and deliver ‘Fleet Sales Effectiveness’ consulting projects both as subject matter expert and advisor to fleet facing sales people of all levels.
Diarmuid Fahy offers expert consultancy to businesses and organisations where employees drive for work. He has enjoyed a great career in the insurance, accident management and risk management industries for the last 20 years and holds an MSc in Psychology from the School of Driver Behaviour at Cranfield University. Having previously worked with leasing companies Arval, Masterlease and Alphabet GB, former clients include fleets operating in both the private and public sectors, and range from SME to large corporate institutions, many of which are household names. Diarmuid’s expert knowledge of both the requirements for effective fleet risk management as well as experience with the foremost service providers in the field enable him to make a qualified and unbiased assessment of individual clients distinct requirements and the optimum solutions to meet these.
Chris has is an internationally experienced senior executive in the field of operations and automotive data management with a track record in high profile roles at LloydsTSB Autolease (Head of Commercial Operations), Hitachi Capital (Risk Director), CAP Automotive (Chief Editor) and EurotaxGlass’s (Group Product Manager), HK Remarketing (Project Director). He has delivered high level Programmes and Projects in the automotive sector including operational reviews, product design and development, process re-engineering, systems development, organisational restructuring and market research. This is backed up by a solid commercial grounding as a qualified accountant and economist and further supported by strong analytical and data management skills.
